Harding and Howell
Anthony Harding, the founder of the world’s first department store, was a true visionary. He created a space where unaccompanied women could gather and socialise, a groundbreaking concept for the time. Harding described himself as a silk mercer, and his biographies reveal a man deeply in tune with the spirit of his era, yet ambitious enough to shape its future.
Any product bearing his name would have reflected both his understanding and, I think, his love of silk. The .ai imagery, while not perfect and very far from any Regency aesthetic, captures an idea of the elegance and innovation Harding would have brought to his store.
For the branding, I drew inspiration from an original Harding and Howell receipt. Gold was the only fitting choice. If I ever get to make version two of the magazine, this will be foil blocked in the publication.
Any reader with time would enjoy the Wiki history of Pall Mall, a Regency place of the moment that still leaves me a tiny bit breathless when I visit.
