Miss Blacklin

Dolls have always played an integral role in fashion. Pandora dolls, dressed by designers to communicate a final aesthetic, were in their own way the first fashion magazines. We used this idea for the magazine, drawing inspiration from McQueen and photographer Nick Knight’s Black Tableaux imagery. I also remember the first Alexander McQueen website, which was photographed entirely against black. I loved how it reimagined the concept of an eCommerce product shot, and how the darkness sharpened focus on the collection. (Though of course they eventually moved on to a more standard direction.)

All Things Regency research places Miss Blacklin’s studio at 11 Blenheim Street, right in the heart of London’s Regency shopping district. In December 2024, we found the property on the market for £130,000 per annum (500 sq. ft. shop area, 500 sq. ft. basement).
