Volume II

The second volume follows the unfolding drama of the novel. Here the narrative is accompanied by features including The Briar Rose and Miss Blacklin’s New Season. The imagery blends the craft of historic dressmaking with the imagination of contemporary fashion, bringing to life the romance, risk, and shifting fortunes that shape the middle chapters.

Between the chapters appear advertisements, programmes, and announcements drawn from the atmosphere of Regency London. A theatre bill, a notice of a ball, or the calling card of a fashionable new maker carries the sense of opportunity and intrigue. Together, they echo the uncertainty of the story itself, full of drama and change.

Behind Volume II

Each individual volume in the Novel Magazine is complete in itself, presenting a part of the story through Austen’s words and an accompanying visual world.

The supporting imagery and editorial detail were drawn from extensive research across collections at the V&A, the National Portrait Gallery, Chawton House, the British Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Kyoto Costume Institute, as well as through the work of Janeite scholars and dedicated online societies. For a complete list of all our research points please visit: www.prideandprejudice.uk/references.

Every feature within a volume was developed through cycles of .ai generation and human refinement, always judged by taste and by the standard of Austen herself: wit, intelligence, and restraint.
